Moroccan Thuya Burl Lidded Box

Lose yourself in the dense whorls of wood that appear now as licking flames, now as shifting sands, now as changing tides. This wooden keepsake box was hand-turned in the Essaouira tradition from thuya burl (Tetraclinis articulata), the prized root of a conifer with a spicy, resinous aroma, found only in the Atlas Mountains. As it reveals on the outside, it hides within.

Moroccan, mid-to-late 20th century. Small knotholes or hairline cracks are characteristic of the wood.
